Knit Cotton Hooded Towel

Design by: Barbara Katz’ 2007 “pattern a day” calendar (pattern used without permission)

Doll hand made by Pat A.
Knit hooded towels hand made by Sue W. Thompson

Materials: sport weight or worsted weight cotton yarn
                Size 8 knitting needles
Small crochet hook (D or F)

Gauge: 18 sts = 4”/10 cm

Finished Dimensions: approximately 24” x 24”/ 61 x 61 cm

To create a nice chain stitch edging, knit into the back of the first stitch of each row.  Then on the last stitch of each row bring yarn forward and slip the stitch.

Cast on 3 sts.

K1b (knit in back of st), knit in front and back of next st, yarn forward, slip last st. (4 sts)

Continue knitting into the front and back of second st of each row.  Knit to last st, then yarn forward, slip the last st until you have 145 sts.

Start decreasing: K1b, knit 2 tog, knit to last st, yfwd, sl 1.

Continue until there are 8 sts remaining.  Begin increasing again, as before to 40 sts.  Cast off loosely but do not break yarn.

Finishing: Using a small (size D or F) crochet hook and chain stitch, attach the hood side to the corresponding blanket side across the eight sts at the top and then along the other side, to form the hood.  Cut yarn and fasten off any ends.
