Knit Cap with Top Knot

Materials:
Size 8 dp knitting needles (#4)
1-2 oz. yarn (DK bucilla yarn is used in the yellow cap shown here) (Lion Brand Homespun is
used for the purple/pink cap shown)
about 1 oz contrasting yarn
Directions:
Cast on 60 sts. Divide sts evenly between three dp knitting needles (20 sts/needle).
Being careful not to twist the cast on sts, *k2, p1*. Repeat ** around. Continue in this
ribbed pattern until you have knit ribbing about 1".
Change to other yarn. K each st. Continue until 4" from cast on edge.
Decrease as follows:
*K 8 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 7 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 6 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 5 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 4 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 3 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 2 sts, k 2 tog* around.
*K 1 st, k 2 tog* around.
*K 2 tog around.
K2tog, k2tog, k 2 (4 sts remain).
With remaining 4 sts, slide sts to right end of needle and k 4 sts. Slide these sts to right end of needle and k 4 sts. (You will be pulling the yarn from the left side of the needle to the right side to begin knitting each row.) Continue until piece measures 2½".
K2tog twice.
K2tog.
Finish off by pulling tail of thread through to wrong side of the cap. Cut thread.
Tie loose knot in top of cap. |
