Size: Fits newborn baby
Materials:
2 oz yarn (DK or worsted)
2 size 5 single pointed knitting needles
2 size 8 knitting needles (you will need 2 size 8 dp knitting needles for the ties)
Small stitch holder
Gauge: 5 stitches per inch
Directions:
With size 5 knitting needles, cast on 55 sts.
K 9 rows for garter stitch border.
Change to size 8 knitting needles and work in stockinette stitch until hat measures 5½".
Bind off.
Fold in half lengthwise and sew bound off edges together (back seam).
With size 8 knitting needles and right side facing you, pick up and k 43 sts along bottom edge. Work the first and last 4 sts in stockinette stitch and the rest K1, P1 ribbing for 6 rows, (ending with 4 P sts at the beginning and end of the last row).
K 2tog, K2 . Slip onto stitch holder. Bind off ribbing. Work the last four sts as follows: K2 , K 2tog.
P these last three sts.
*Slide these last three sts to other end of size 8 dp needle. Drawing yarn tightly across the P side of the 3 sts and K 3 sts.* Continue ** until tie measures 12" long. K 3tog. Bind off.
Join yarn to the 3 sts on the stitch holder and work second tie the same as the first.
