3½ oz 2 ply sport weight yarn for sacque
Crochet hook size H
1 yard ¼" ribbon
dc (double crochet)
sc (single crochet)
Gauge: 2 shells and 3 dc equal 3½ inches
Starting at neck edge, ch 53 loosely.
Row 1: Dc in 4 th ch from hook and in each ch (51 dc, counting turning ch as 1 dc), ch 3, turn.
Rows 2 through 7: Dc in each dc across, inc 10 dc evenly spaced, ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Sc in each dc-inc 10 sc evenly spaced, ch 1, turn-121 sts.
Row 1: Sc in first sc (sk 1, 5 dc in next sc-shell made, sk 2, sc in next sc) three times, sk 1, 2 dc in next st-for front; sk 24-for sleeve; 2 dc in next st, (sk 2, sc in next st,, sk 1, shell of 5 dc in next st) six times; sk 2, sc in next st, sk 1, 2 dc in next st-for back; sk 24-for other sleeve; 3 dc in next st, (sk 2, sc in next st, sk 1, shell in next st) three times, sk 1, sc in last st, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: 2 Dc in first sc, *sc in center dc of shell, shell in sc, repeat from * across, end 3 dc in last sc, ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in first dc, *shell in sc, sc in center of shell, repeat from * across, end sc in turning ch, ch 3, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 until 10 shell rows have been completed, ch 1, turn.
Sc in first dc of lower edge, *in next sc (dc, ch 2, sc in second ch from hook for a picot) three times, dc in same sc, sc in shell, repeat from * across lower edge, end sc in corner. Work along front edge, *ch 2, sc in second ch from hook, sc side of dc, ch 2, sc in side of next sc, repeat from * to neck. Continue around next and along other front.
Work shell pattern as on first row of body around sleeve opening until there are 4½ shells around, ch 1, turn.
Continue in shell pattern until there are 7 shell rows, fasten off.
Sew sleeve seam. Work shell edging as on lower edge of sacque, fasten off.
Lace about 30" of ¼" ribbon through first dc row (at neck edge).
